A draft mission state was provided at the Moss Landing meeting, and offered as an item for review. The current revision is as follows.
ACCEO MISSION: To facilitate and coordinate monitoring the pelagic ecosystem of the entire California Current; promote integration of California current regional pelagic-monitoring programs to the larger benefit of all; carry out a decade of coast-wide monitoring to establish a baseline on which subsequent locally measured and relatively inexpensive indices could be developed; understand the dynamics of the California Current and its populations and determine how the chemistry and the biology of the California Current are affected by interdecadal to seasonal changes in physical forcing and water mass distributions; and generate information needed for the wise management of California Current natural resources, marine reserves and protected species.
